From absolute beginner to B2

Five levels on the CEFR scale. Each page below says what you can do at the end of the level, and lists the modules it is made of.

French from scratch: level A0

Level A0 starts from scratch. You have never learned French, or you have long forgotten it. The eight modules of this level take you to greeting someone, ordering, asking for directions and paying for a simple purchase, in 23 short lessons.

French level A1

Level A1 covers everyday life. You talk about your family, your day, what you eat, what you will do tomorrow, and you say what happened yesterday. Ten modules, 30 lessons.

10 modules, 30 lessons

French level A2

Level A2 takes you beyond the isolated sentence. You tell a story, give an opinion, compare things, and cope while travelling and at the doctor's. Ten modules, 30 lessons.

French level B1

Level B1 moves from describing to making a case. You talk about your background, your work and your plans, you give advice, you follow the news and you begin to persuade. Ten modules, 20 lessons, a first edition.

Level B2 works on nuance. You qualify an argument, cite a source, write in a professional setting, take part in a debate and negotiate. Ten modules, 20 lessons, a first edition.
